What is the Board of Directors?

The Board of Directors (BOD) are the decision-making authority for the associations. They manage the business and affairs of AMSN, including determining policy, managing financials, and defining strategic direction.

Operationally, the Boards develop, execute, and oversee organizational goals. All directors understand, uphold, and support the mission, vision, values, bylaws, and policies of AMSN.

Meet the Board of AMSN

 
Marisa Streelman
President, Dr. Marisa L. Streelman, DNP, RN, CMSRN, NE-BC

Marisa is currently the Strategic Advisor to the Chief Nursing Executive at the University of Michigan – Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, MI and is a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®). She previously served as a staff specialist with the organization’s nursing leadership team, with concentration in surgical services subsegment in the Adult Hospitals.

Previous projects include implementing an electronic SBAR for internal transfers and a separate SBAR for external transfers, fall prevention, reduction for length of stay, and safety assistant guidelines. Most recently she completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice in Transformational Leadership: Systems from Rush University.

 
Summer Bryant
Immediate Past President, Dr. Summer Bryant, DNP, RN, CENP, CMSRN

Summer is a senior managing consultant for Berkeley Research Group (BRG) where she serves as a subject matter expert for medical-surgical nursing processes and patient care delivery. She is a seasoned healthcare leader with more than 19 years of clinical expertise and nursing leadership experience in medical-surgical environments. She has led teams in a variety of areas to transform performance, reduce staff turnover, and deliver high quality care and patient service.

Dr. Bryant is adept at managing projects and leading people while building a cohesive, collaborative environment and developing nurses and other staff members into leaders. She has completed research studying the effect of the Lean Management System on unfinished nursing care in a medical-surgical setting.

She is a member of several professional nursing organizations, to include the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses, the American Nurses Association, the Kansas Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International. Dr. Bryant received three degrees from The University of Kansas: BSN, MSN, and DNP focused in Organizational Leadership.

 
Cynthia Rothenberger
Treasurer, Cynthia Rothenberger, DNP, RN, ACNS, BC

Cindy is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Alvernia University. She teaches in classroom, clinical and simulation settings in the prelicensure baccalaureate program, with a focus on facilitating active engagement in learning.

Previous experience includes roles as a clinician and Clinical Nurse Specialist in medical-surgical and maternal-child nursing.

 
Secretary, Dr. Patricia Bartzak, DNP, RN, CMSRN, TCRN, CNRN

Dr. Bartzak, who is from Natick, MA, is a hospital nurse clinician with 19 years of direct nursing care of patients with infectious diseases and traumas. She is currently a staff nurse at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, MA.

She has held many volunteer positions for AMSN including research project reviewer; 2014 Core Curriculum for Medical-Surgical Nursing Task Force member; Clinical Practice Committee member, Research Committee member, and column editor for MedSurg Matters.

 
Kristi Campoe
Director, Dr. Kristi Campoe, PhD, RN, CMSRN, CPHQ, sMBA

Kristi serves as the U.S. Director of Clinical and Client Services for TillaCare, Ltd. based in Israel. With over 28 years in the acute care setting, consulting, and academia, she is known for her ability to lead innovative programs and enable business and clinical operations through evidence-based practice. As a scientist, Dr. Campoe's program of research addresses medical-surgical nursing, patient safety, and medical device safety while incorporating human factors.

Kristi is a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®) and a Certified Healthcare Quality Professional (CPHQ®). Her AMSN volunteer work includes service to the MEDSURG Journal as an Editorial Board Member, leadership roles as President/Vice-President of AMSN Florida Gulf Coast Chapter #223, and AMSN Research Grant Reviewer.

 
Kristi Reguin-Hartman
Director, Kristi Reguin-Hartman, MSN, APRN, ACNS, BC

Kristi has a variety of healthcare experience including clinical nursing in medical-surgical and cardiovascular settings, nursing education and professional development, advanced nursing practice as a clinical nurse specialist, and informatics management.

She has focused on hospital-acquired-infection prevention, quality improvement, evaluation of nursing standards and practices, and the integration of clinical practice with information technology. Kristi teaches graduate nursing students for East Carolina University. Her volunteer work includes Past Chair of the NCNA Clinical Nurse Specialist Council and appointed member to the NCNA Commission for Advanced Practice Nursing.

 
Director, Catherine Skowronsky, MSN, APRN-ACNS-BC, CMSRN

Catherine, who is from Berea, OH, is a clinical nurse specialist who provides direct care and expert consultation for patients in medical-surgical units who are experiencing poor mental health.

Her volunteer work with AMSN has included partnering with the American Psychiatric Nurses’ Association to develop competencies for the care of patients at risk for suicide. In 2020, she served as a content reviewer for the Core Curriculum for Medical-Surgical Nursing, behavioral health chapter, and Care of the Patient with Psychiatric Co-morbidities, electronic module.

 
Michael Szeliga
Director, Michael Szeliga, MSN, APRN, AGCNS-BC, CMSRN

Michael is a Clinical Nurse Specialist who has been practicing at ChristianaCare in Newark, Delaware since 2018. Certified as an adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist, medical-surgical registered nurse, and healthcare quality professional, Michael has over 10 years of nursing experience in the acute care setting. Within his organization, he is involved in a variety of unit-based, service-line, and system-level initiatives that focus on improving nursing professional practice, the culture of safety, and patient outcomes. In addition to volunteer work within the AMSN, Michael is a member of various professional nursing organizations nationally and within the Delaware Valley region.

 
Marie Mullins
Emerging Professional, Marie Mullins, BSN, RN, CMSRN

Marie is a passionate leader with a strong commitment to develop nurses to their highest potential through empowerment. After graduating from Texas Tech University in 2019, Marie worked for 3 years as a medical surgical nurse. Marie has specialized in cardiac and neurological medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and is a Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®). She continues to work towards clinical excellence within her organization through quality and leadership. Marie is currently working towards earning her Masters of Science in Nursing Leadership from Grand Canyon University.

 
Terri Hinkley
Chief Executive Officer, Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE

Terri has been the CEO of AMSN and MSNCB since 2017. Terri is a former senior clinical research operation professional with 21 years of clinical and industry experience, coupled with over 32 years in acute care nursing in the healthcare setting. She has seven years of association management leadership experience.

Terri received her RN from Centennial College, BScN from York University, an Executive MBA from Athabasca University, and an Ed.D. in the Executive Leadership (ELP) Human and Organizational Learning (HOL) Program at the George Washington University
