Nursing History: A Trip Back in Time to the Nightingale Museum

Linda YoderAMSN President Linda Yoder recently visited the Lucy Osburn Nightingale Museum at Sydney Hospital in Australia.

"The nurses were beloved in Sydney and throughout the country," Yoder said. "The docents who now work at the museum are retired nurses who were educated at the Sydney Hospital and they were all so kind to me. These nurses are working hard to preserve nursing history! The Matron is the Chief Nurse Executive from those days."

Here, she shares museum photos and the incredible story of Osburn and five other nurses who overcame daunting barriers to lay the foundation for modern nursing.
