9th Annual Medical-Surgical Nursing Symposium

Submitted by Lillie Waller Wright RN BSN MSN, Chicago Chapter #317

My story is about the 9th Annual Medical-Surgical Nursing Symposium, held during Medical-Surgical Nurses Week.

It took place at the Marriott at Midway, Chicago, Illinois on November, 1, 2017 between 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

All nurses were invited to come and listen to wonderful speakers and mingle with their peers. The Symposium was educational, celebratory, and inspired leadership qualities within Medical-Surgical Nursing.

(L-R) Yalanda Comeaux and Johana Hernandez. Ms. Comeaux's presentation titled, "Nurse Legislator: A Nurse's Path to Getting Involved In the Legislation Process". The first step is to meeting your local counsel representative.

(L-R) Ms. Marisa Streelman and Whitney Shiner. Mrs. Streelman's presentation, "Medical-Surgical Certification: Creating Leaders at Bedside," encouraged young nurses to purse their goal of obtaining their Medical-Surgical Certification.

(L-R) Ms. Evelyn Perkins  and Ms. Janet Fitzgerald. Ms. Perkins presentation titled " The Effects of Violence on the Brain," enforces that we must remember to love our careers and continue to remain passionate each day. The brain is a very creative tool but violence seen at any age and displayed for long periods of time can destroy your brain. As human beings, we need to remember to show more love to create a better atmosphere within our homes, work environments, and everyday communications.
