Clinical Practice Committee

Purpose

The Clinical Practice Committee of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) supports the mission to promote excellence in medical-surgical nursing. It addresses issues that are related to clinical practice in medical-surgical nursing, by expanding the awareness and utilization of evidenced-based practice (EBP), research, and performance/quality improvement among medical-surgical nurses.

Responsibilities

The Clinical Practice Committee:

  • Represents AMSN with other professional groups when issues related to the clinical practice of medical-surgical nursing are concerned as directed by the Board of Directors.
  • Develops statements or guidelines for AMSN concerning medical-surgical clinical practice issues as directed by the Board of Directors.
  • Moderates and responds to clinical inquiries and discussions on the AMSN Hub.
  • Provides qualified reviewers to Wolters Klower (WK), for the review of Lippincott Procedures for medical-surgical nursing practice.
  • Reviews and revises all clinical content on the AMSN Website annually.

The Clinical Practice Committee consists of a Chairperson, Team Leaders and Members who are assisted by a Board Liaison and Staff Liaison. Some members may only participate in 1 to 2 of the committee’s responsibilities because of the time involved.
